Motorola

Making it easier for engineers to build, submit, and manage ECNs

Company Description

Motorola is a $37 billion communications company providing end-to-end seamless mobility products. Motorola's four operating business segments include Mobile Devices Segment; Government and Enterprise Mobility Solutions Segment; Networks Segment, and Connected Home Solutions Segment.

Business Challenge

Engineering change management processes managed through software were too complex and not intuitive. The legacy system made it difficult to create and rework Engineering Change Notices (ECNs). As a result, ECNs were error prone and frequently rejected, increasing the cycle time.

Synapsis Project

Synapsis provided project management from initial scope through production deployment. Synapsis gathered and rationalized requirements across multiple business units. Synapsis developed and implemented custom wizards to facilitate business-specific ECN processes. Synapsis trained and mentored the internal software development staff on how to customize the Teamcenter thin client.

Impact

Faster ECN cycle time and a marked increase in end-user satisfaction, achieved through a highly intuitive and automated interface. Customer testimonial: "I did a qualification on a bunch of cables and harnesses... in Classic Client it has taken me up to an hour before and in Thin Client it took me about 5 minutes.  I also really like the reports and the way that BOMs are displayed."
