Synapsis Announces Automated Part Classification Solution for UGS PLM Solutions' Teamcenter® Product Lifecycle Management Portfolio

May 17, 2004

Synapsis Technology, Inc., announced the immediate availability of PartDictionary™, an out-of-the-box configuration of the part classification solution in Teamcenter®, the world's leading Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) portfolio from UGS PLM Solutions. Based on the industry-standard RosettaNet Technical Dictionary (RNTD v3.2), PartDictionary™ dramatically reduces time spent by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) on part classification and significantly enhances integration with their supply chains.

PartDictionary™ employs the RosettaNet e-business process standards to rapidly establish a part classification hierarchy within Teamcenter – a process which would otherwise take companies months or even years to build manually. Once established, this part classification solution enables OEMs to make better outsourcing decisions and, because it is standards-based, allows them to essentially "speak the same language" as their suppliers relative to parts inventory, thereby strengthening the OEM's supplier relationships.

"Synapsis and UGS PLM Solutions have a longstanding relationship which has generated innovative products for companies across multiple industries, particularly for the High Technology Electronics segment." says Lonnie Gillihan, President of Synapsis Technology, Inc.

Building a part classification solution for a company is a complex task requiring involvement from multiple departments followed by a dedicated IT effort. The effort to agree on a standard classification schema can be daunting for any organization. PartDictionary™ allows Teamcenter customers to standardize the classification schema and automate the implementation process for faster time-to-value on their PLM investment.

Features

  • Standard language and infrastructure for supplier integration
  • Standards driven characterization of supplier part information
  • Expanded parametric searching capabilities
  • CAD integration support - access part info from CAD tool
  • Quick identification of parts for design and procurement
  • OOTB classification schema for rapid deployment
  • Model allows for custom characterization
  • Data Mining/Migration services available

Benefits

  • Enables more reuse of existing parts which speeds design cycle time and lowers inventory costs
  • Reduces duplication of effort and streamlines the development process
  • Reduces part data errors by decreasing the need for manual data re-entry
  • Reduces inventory and logistics costs by reducing part proliferation
  • Reduces risk of unexpected part obsolescence

"Supply chain integration is a strategic imperative for our Teamcenter customers," said Steve Bashada, vice president of Teamcenter Applications, UGS PLM Solutions. "PartDictionary™ provides a turnkey solution that builds on the parts classification capabilities of Teamcenter with industry-standard terminology, which is particularly important in industries like high tech electronics where new parts and components are being introduced on a daily basis. This allows companies to quickly and cost-effectively optimize the sourcing of parts from their suppliers."

Today's announcement is an extension of the technology and marketing relationship between Synapsis Technology, Inc. and UGS PLM Solutions. Synapsis Technology is a Foundation partner in the UGS PLM Solutions Partner Program with competencies in both Solutions and Services.
