Synapsis Technology, Inc., a provider of Environmental Compliance and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions, today announced it has signed an agreement with IBM to provide its patent-pending Environmental Material Aggregation and Reporting System (EMARS) to support IBM's environmental compliance requirements for all of its product lines.
IBM's Integrated Supply Chain Group responsible for procurement and vendor management, manufacturing and distribution will be integrating EMARS into the company's extensive systems environment to support RoHS (Restrictions on the use of certain Hazardous Substances Directive) as well as its own internal compliance specifications.
EMARS provides the stability, advanced functionality and the necessary flexibility to manage IBM's components at a commodity level and handle the complexity of its brand structure.
"We are looking forward to working with an industry leader like IBM on its environmental compliance needs," said Lonnie Gillihan, president of Synapsis. "New environmental regulations, such as RoHS and WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive), require manufacturers to comply with industry standards in order to sell their products in certain countries.
EMARS provides IBM with a sophisticated compliance and reporting tool that can be implemented quickly to meet the regulations and lays a foundation for future requirements."
EMARS is an off-the-shelf solution that offers a complete set of functionality to analyze and track compliance at the substance, material, part and product level and efficiently manage the data collection and reporting process. EMARS maximizes the visibility of compliance information to all stages of the product lifecycle and therefore minimizes the risk and cost associated with non-compliance.
